project is structured to shift about
5,500 containers in its first year
of operation from congested north-south Interstate 55 to the Mississippi
River. Sponsored by America’s
Central Port located in Granite City,
Ill., the container-on-barge service
will provide soybean and grain shippers a new routing option.
The third service, the Lake Erie
Shuttle, is a proposed route that will
carry cargo for shippers between the
ports of Monroe, Mich., Cleveland
and Detroit. The service is sponsored by the Port of Monroe.
A Marine Highway Project is
a planned service, or expansion
of an existing service, on a designated Marine Highway Route,
that provides new modal choices to shippers of cargo, reduces
transportation costs and provides
public benefits including reduced
air emissions, reduced road maintenance costs and improved safety

n Airbus Group SE has reached
agreement with KKR, a global
investment firm, to sell its defense
electronics business, Defence
Electronics. The transaction is
expected to close in the first quarter of 2017.
n Airbus Group and Siemens
have signed a collaboration agreement in the field of hybrid electric
propulsion. The chief executive
officers (CEOs) of both companies, Tom Enders and Joe Kaeser,
have launched a major joint project
toward the electrification of aviation with the goal of demonstrating
the technical feasibility of various

n Mercury Systems Inc. has
signed a definitive agreement with
Microsemi Corp. to acquire the
embedded security, RF and microwave, and custom microelectronics

n FleetWeather Ocean Services,
a business intelligence and analytics for the commercial shipping
industry, has changed its name to
Accuritas Global Solutions and
expanded its role to include other
modes of global transportation.
n SeeByte, a provider of smart
software technology for unmanned
systems, has formed a partnership
with OceanServer, a manufacturer
of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), to deliver the mine
countermeasures of the Iver 3 AUV.
n Enlightenment Capital, an aerospace, defense, and government-focused investment firm, has made
a strategic investment in Aurora
Flight Sciences, a company that
provides unmanned aircraft systems and autonomous flight technologies for military and commercial customers.
n Huntington Ingalls Industries’
Ingalls Shipbuilding division
announced that Richard Schenk,
vice president of program management, will retire on July 1 after 33
years of service. He will be succeeded by Kari Wilkinson, effective May
23. Wilkinson currently is the ship
program manager for the amphibious transport dock John P. Murtha.
Ingalls also announced that Mike
Duthu has been promoted to vice
president, business development.
He most recently served as the
director of business development.
n Huntington Ingalls Industries’
AMSEC LLC subsidiary promoted
Ryan Norris, a former naval officer,
to director of strategic planning
and business development. Norris
joined AMSEC in 2004 and has
served in several management posi-

n Nicolas Chamussy will become
executive vice president of Airbus
Group SE’s Space Systems unit
on July 1. Chamussy presently
