Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy Junior ROTC cadets take part in a
parade and pass-in-review April 23 at the Campbell High School football stadium in Smyrna, Ga.
Thirteen units (two Air Force,
four Army and seven Marine Corps/
Navy) representing 17 schools participated in this event, according to a
report from Diane Ritter, the Atlanta
Metropolitan Council vice president
for Public Affairs.
The Atlanta Metropolitan Council supports 44 Navy/Marine Corps
JROTC units — including all seven
that participated in the pass-in-review — and two NROTC units at
Georgia Tech University and More-house College representing more
than 3,500 cadets and midshipmen.
The JROTC ceremony speakers
and review team included Dr. Michael Hinojosa, Cobb County
Schools’ superintendent; Leigh Col-burn, Marietta High School principal; and Brig. Gen. Joe Jarrard, assistant adjutant general, Georgia Department of Defense. Two awards
were given to each participating
school/unit: the Superintendent’s
Award to the outstanding first-year
cadet and the Military Officers
Association Award for the most outstanding upperclassman.
(AUSA) and the Air Force Association (AFA), was held May 18 at
Seattle’s Museum of Flight.
Armed Forces Day recognizes
service men and women currently
on active duty around the world.
The Seattle event featured a public
forum with guest speakers Rear
Adm. Keith A. Taylor, commander,
Thirteenth Coast Guard District;
and Brig. Gen. Mark R. Wise, commanding general of the Marine
Corps Warfighting Laboratory; and
the annual presentation of new
service flags, a U.S. flag and a Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flag
to the Museum of Flight.
Military recruiters were invited
and staffed booths and military
assets were on display in the park-
ing lot. All service members and up
to five family members got free
admission to the museum and dis-
counts in the museum store and on
memberships. Several hundred
people attended the event.
