Council again provided volunteer judges for the Palm
Beach County Regional
Science and Engineering
Fair held at the South
Florida Fairgrounds Dec. 15.
Former Space Shuttle pilot Bob
Crippen, John Limoncelli and Sue
Comerford judged middle- and
high-school projects in physics,
engineering, computer sciences,
medicine and behavioral sciences,
according to a release from the
council.
The Palm Beach representatives
selected two projects for recognition by the Navy League as having
potential naval applications. The
middle-school winner was Devin
Willis of A.D. Henderson Middle
School and the high-school winner
was Claudia Cabal of Suncoast High
School.
Then-Council President Ken
Lee also judged at the Science and
Engineering Fair, and selected two
winning projects for recognition by the South Florida
Submarine Veterans organization.
On Jan. 12, new Council President Sonia Foster,
incoming Science Fair Coordinator Peter Petrelis and
Lee, the awards chairman, attended the Palm Beach
County Science and Engineering Fair awards night at
Santaluces High School auditorium to present Navy
League Ullman Scholar Awards to Willis and Cabal.
This is the third year for the Ullman Scholar
awards, which are funded by friends and family of past
Council President Keith Ullman and consist of a certificate and $400 honorarium.
More than 260 students were recognized for their
science and engineering fair performance at the awards
night, and the auditorium was packed with young scientists and their families.
Sea Cadets Announce
New Executive Director
The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps has announced the
selection of retired Navy Capt. Paul A. Zambernardi as its
new executive director. Zambernardi will fill the vacancy
created by Henry J. Nyland’s retirement. The selection
was made after a national search and selection process.
