Acquires Converteam
Atlanta-based General Electric
(GE) Energy has completed a 3. 2
billion deal to acquire the French
firm Converteam, a provider of
power conversion and automations
systems as well as motors, generators and high-efficiency power
electronics.
GE has been producing gas tur-
bine power systems for naval ships
since the 1970s, providing engines
to more than 400 vessels world-
wide. With recent changes in naval
ship propulsion technology, inte-
grated fully electric propulsion
(IFEP) is becoming more popular.
Converteam is providing electric
power solutions for the U.K. Royal
Navy’s Daring-class destroyers and
Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft car-
riers, the U.S. Navy’s Zumwalt-
class destroyers and MLPs, and the
Mistral-class amphibious assault
ships for the French Navy.

Agency has notified the U.S. Con-
gress of a proposed Foreign Military
Sale to the government of Qatar of
six MH-60R Seahawk multimission
helicopters and associated equip-
ment, spares and training. The
entire package is worth an estimat-
ed $750 million.
