Work has begun on the first submarine of a second batch of Type 212A-class
boats for the Italian Navy. The Navy commissioned two Type 212A submarines
from an initial batch in 2005 and 2007.
India Issues RfI for
Air Defense Ship Fighters
The Indian Navy has released a
request for information (RfI) on
the acquisition of up to 40 fighter
aircraft for the first Air Defense
Ship (ADS) that is expected to be
commissioned in 2014 or 2015.
Defense sources indicate that the
RfI was issued to U.S. firms Boeing
and Lockheed Martin, France’s
Dassault, BAE Systems in the
United Kingdom and the Russian
Aircraft Corporation MiG, former-
ly Mikoyan.
