Draft Problem?
In response to the letter from Mr.
Horst, February issue; if the reason Gearing-class destroyers weren’t
effective in the littoral [during the
U.S. Navy’s presence in the Dominican Republic in 1965] was because
of their draft, 14 feet, 4 inches, the
[second] Littoral Combat Ship
[Independence] has a draft of 14 feet
8 inches. Problem not solved.

incorrectly in the caption of
the photo of construction
work on the Virginia-class
submarine New Mexico in the
February issue. It is located
in Newport News, Va.
