SPECIAL REPORT: UNDERSEA WARFARE
As the Navy’s undersea warfare capabilities continue to evolve, so too do
the design, construction and operation of its assets. Ohio-class submarines
converted to the guided-missile configuration can launch special operations
missions, along with a battery of Tomahawk missiles. With construction of
Block III versions of the Virginia-class submarine yet to begin, designers
already are looking ahead to new capabilities and improvements for Block
IV. And as new technologies and threats emerge, Submarine Force commanders must constantly adjust and adapt to these changes.
