scheme is time, Gabel said. Several case analyses will

An “interim support planning team” has been established to run case analyses for all Deepwater assets.
For the Medium Security Cutter, “The main goal of
this is to ensure ruthless configuration management —
that we maintain [it] according to specifications provided by ICGS and the original equipment manufacturers so that the readiness of the [cutter] is maintained in tip-top condition,” Brown said.
A continual series of monthly briefings are being
held to ensure the planning effort for the cutter is meeting deadlines and that the ship will
be properly supported.
“The commandant has made it
very, very clear to us that this first
cutter will be properly supported,
and then it will be operated up to
expectations,” Gabel said.
But as a logistics plan for the
Medium Security Cutter is being
developed, the development of a mission support organization requires
assimilation of new-asset logistics
plans with prior Coast Guard logistics management expertise.
“It’s all going to come together,
including the Deepwater part of the
Coast Guard and the non-Deepwater
part of the Coast Guard,” Gabel said,
moving toward a “product-line
approach” built from the service’s
current aviation program.
The product-line approach is one
that documents the systems installed
on each platform, their makers,
upgrades and repairs, as well as
modifications made to the platforms
after installation. This information
allows the Coast Guard to have a
history of particular platforms so
that their logistics support is consistent with newer platforms of the
